BMW Brilliance Automotive introduces the conception of a premium-section plug-in hybrid sedan in the chalk up to the international automobile trade show Auto Shanghai 2011. In partnership with its joint venture partner Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. BMW Group has as a consequence assumed the next step of the way for producing the new energy fomite for China. The model is founded on the long wheelbase edition of the BMW 5 Series Sedan, formulated solely for the Chinese automobile market and developed at the Shengyang site.

It is the first fomite in its section in China to render a full fledged blend of exclusive style and ecological consciousness. In this way, it shuts the gap in the high-end region while at the same time it lays the groundwork for the future growth of a Chinese new energy vehicle in the premium section. Its drive hybrid blends an incineration engine having BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with an electrical motor. The groundbreaking idea also includes unique battery technology which includes the likelihood of charging from a mains power supply.

The model of a plug-in hybrid saloon is division of the BMW Group’s electro mobility scheme for China. The guideline for a new energy vehicle includes the reliable growth of both development capability and value-formation potentiality in China. The BMW Group is managing a number of projects to back up the market launching of electrically catered fomites in China. The very first German-Chinese study project, a supportive venture with Tongji University in Shanghai, resulted in the evolution of a strictly electrically powered BMW 5 Series in the long wheelbase variation.

The universal MINI E fleet try out was expanded to China at the start of the year, connecting the sites of Peking and Shenzhen. The MINI E is being tried out for daily use at these localizations by a syndicate made up of the energy partners State Grid Corporation and Southern Grid as well as the China Automotive Technology and Research Corporation (CATARC). This also applies to field trying of the BMW ActiveE. This solely electrically powered fomite established on the BMW 1 Series car will be put to use in China in the course of this year.

With its broad field testing in the most significant vehicle markets, the BMW Group is collecting perceptiveness into consumer conduct and the necessities of local supply base. The knowledge thus derived is being fed both into the BMW Group’s worldwide electro mobility policy and the growth of the new energy fomite for China.

With the plug-in hybrid automobile founded on the BMW 5 Series Sedan in the long wheelbase variation, BMW Brilliance Automotive now has the solid upshot of this plan. Series manufacture of the auto is to start in China in 2013.

The attributes of the plug-in hybrid fomite are pitched intimately towards the requirements of the Chinese self-propelled market. The model allows for ride comfortableness, comfy atmosphere and inner space at the same level as the long wheelbase variant of the BMW 5 Series Sedan which has been so productive in China. When operating solely on electrical power, it is probable to travel discharge-free for up to 75 kilometers m/h at a steady speed of 60 km/h. Application of the incineration engine renders a minimum extra range of 400 kilometers, which is eligible with the driving contour of Chinese clients in the premium section.

The prototype-precise parts for the plug-in hybrid drive, power electronics and high-volt battery were formulated in close association between the joint venture partners BMW Group and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd.

BMW Vision ConnectedDrive the Smart Car of the Future: Location Aware and Self-Driving

30 June 2011 | No Comments » | Jeroen

The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive concept car recognizes its environs and can commune with other cars as well as passing buildings, so that you know where you are driving.

In the near future, your car will no more be a mere car as it will be capable of connecting with the outer world, and even foresee driving behavior. It will also become aware of where it is at present, which buildings it is passing and the cars close to it on the road. From now on when you wave hello to the robot car it will respond to your call.

The BMW ConceptVision Connected Drive sports car had made its first appearance at the Geneva Auto Show this month, applies an exclusive color scheme to feed information to the driver like for instance blue for entertainment alternatives, red for safety concerns.

The BMW ConceptVision renders a way to communicate with the cars’ environs too. For instance, suppose you are driving through New Orleans and go by a coffee bar, you can find the current music play list and insert it in your own in-car entertainment system.

Thilo Koslowski, the vice president of automotive research at Gartner, said that “this kind of location-awareness is the latest auto tech trend. The car senses where you are at all times, knows your music and movie preferences, and can interact with other cars on the roadway.”

He further added to FoxNews.com “Cars are becoming smarter and communicating intelligently with the outside world. Over the next ten years, he said, cars will ‘crowd source’ information from other drivers as they pass your vehicle, learning where the best restaurants are located and the best traffic routes. The car will become an information hub: ordering movie tickets for you and even making dinner reservations. Cars will become the ultimate mobile device; and even more so because they truly are mobile. Making information more accessible to the driver has become a new automotive focus.”

Safety betterments
Koslowski alleged that drivers need more info as they drive, without giving up safety. Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have formulated new engineering that can feel a close at hand crash and hit the brakes mechanically. The Volvo S60 can sense a passing walker and spark a caution light before braking.

Paul Laurenza, an attorney at Dykema said “NHTSA will decide by 2013 whether to regulate new vehicle-to-vehicle safety warning technologies for collision avoidance. These technologies may make their way into new cars by the end of this decade. Of course, some automakers, such as Audi and BMW, will sometimes introduce the new technologies long before they are mandated.”

He further added that “We should continue on the path of having vehicles that use these sophisticated systems to assist the driver and, if necessary, correct for potential collisions where the driver is either distracted or inattentive.”

Self-driving cars
According to Koslowski one of the most elevated goals of automotive engineering is to make cars drive themselves. Google of late formulated developed a program with Toyota Priuses that allowed cars drive on California roadways with slight driver participation. No doubt this self-directed driving makes sense, Koslowski said. The reason being, that a computer can respond much quicker than a human being can communicate with other cars and the roadway itself.

Dr. Erik Coelingh who is a technical lead for security and based in Sweden has formulated a “platooning” engineering science according to which one lead car, driven by a human, inputs data back to other self driving cars in a train.

Winter Tire Program Launched by BMW

BMW has set in motion a high-quality winter tire program intended to assist drivers get the best on-road operation from their car during the winter months – not considering the weather conditions.

Varying tyres to go well with different seasons is already part of normal driving in most of Europe. But now for the 1st time in the UK a BMW winter wheel and tyre package is being made accessible. Summer tires equipped as normal tools by all automakers function best at temperatures above 7°C. This entails summer tires fixed by BMW offer superb degrees of grip, speeding up, stopping, and ease and fuel economy in usual road situations. On the other hand, once the external air temperature nears the freezing point the rubber in summer tires indurate, which takes away their performance. In true wintry situations of snow and ice, as plagued all of the UK originally this year, tire functioning is even poorer.

The gains of such a package are double. The BMW’s performance will be the best during harsh weather, but if the winter is mild, then wear of the tire would be reduced with an increased wet weather hold and operation.

A prototype BMW 7-Series Hybrid was spotted consorting close to the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. Prospective buyers will have to wait till the year end when they can get a hold of their 7 Hybrids. This is a key car for BMW since it will seal the same place in the US that extravagance diesels take up in Europe.

BMW-755iH
Its ActiveHybrid system will be shared with an X6 Hybrid. But at the same time there will be a lot of differences in architecture of the two systems so that it matches these two different cars. At the center is a 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 motor which will run together with an electric unit that establishes 20hp (15kW) and 210Nm of torque. When this is merged with the petrol V8′s 400hp (294kW) and 610Nm of torsion then the outcome is a 420hp (309kW), 820Nm hybrid super limo. A revitalised braking system will be applied and this helps in cutting fuel consumption by 15%.
