Object architect Jeff Koons has been solicited as the following artist for the BMW Art Car plan. The car crafted by him is supposed to be revealed to the public later in the current year.

The BMW Art Car program commenced in 1975 and 3.0 CSL model crafted by Alexander Calder for his driver Hervé Poulain was the first such car of its kind. This pilot mission was followed by 17 other cars being manufactured for the program.

Neither BMW nor Koons disclosed which car was to be used, or even the design to be made.

Frank-Peter Arndt who is a BMW board member said that “We are enormously pleased about Jeff Koons’ eagerly anticipated contribution to the BMW Art Car series, celebrating its 35th anniversary. Art Cars are part of the DNA of BMW’s cultural engagement. Our company and Jeff Koons are drawn to permanent innovation and cutting-edge technology. As manifested in Koons’ latest sculptural work, what unites us is the belief that nothing is impossible.”

Jeff Koons when he spoke from his studio in New York studio, said: “I always thought it would be an honour to work on a BMW Art Car, I look forward to participating in a tradition set forth by such great artists as Calder, Lichtenstein, Stella, and Warhol.”

With more than 100 key projects all over the world, BMW Group cultural plans have been an inherent part of the company’s shares to society for nearly 40 years.
