The Pole informed the publication that: “We will make a step forward in Barcelona, but whether it will be big enough is improbable.”
Teammate Nick Heidfeld added: “We did the first four races without big changes on the car, while the other teams constantly had new parts and went further ahead than us.”

BMW to cut off 1-serial Production Costs

8 May 2009 | No Comments »

BMW is facing very hard days and it is not able to make much money on the 1-series. This particular brand is capped in its higher price range due to competition with the 3-series. It has the same features and technology and is almost the same size as its larger brother. To solve this problem BMW is planning to reduce its production costs but at the same time having extra features in its next 1-series which is due in 2011 or 2012.

Engines and fuel efficiency will also play a vital role in the next-gen 1-series. The  Europeans will get an all-new 3 cylinder turbo petrol unit which is rated at an approximated 110hp (82kW). The new engine plus its new technology which can be applied to the 116d’s diesel engine, will allow more models for lesser CO2 emissions under 100g/km.

Other changes in style are anticipated to include a vaguely tailored rear bumper, minor interior updates, and a possibles witch to LED taillights.

Engine alternatives will mirror that of the present X5, but the fresh twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque will substitute the old 4.8-liter V8 that gives 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Should probable owners fail to be overwhelmed by a sport-ute that can run from 0-60 mph in nearly six seconds flat, BMW will reveal a new X5 M which will show off a twin-turbo V8 that churls out a grotesque 550 hp.

Rumor: BMW M3 to Receive Six Cylinder Turbo

12 April 2009 | No Comments »

It has been confirmed that BMW will be using a smaller turbo engine for the 2013 M3. It has been confirmed the upcoming ditching of the current V8 format. The naturally-drew out 4.0-litre V8 produces 309kW (420hp) and 400Nm of torque. Previous generation M3s used four and six-cylinder motors.
A report confirms that a new six-cylinder will be fitted but it will not be the same 3.0-litre twin turbo that is used in the 135i and 335i models. BMW is fiddling with the idea of a V6 for the M3. The new engine may not be more powerful than the V8 but the car would be light to counter this power handicap.
Finally assumption is that the M5 will get its cylinders cut to meet severe emissions laws and fuel economy standards. The M5 and M6 will have a double turbo V8 motor dismissing less than 5.0-litres.

REPORT: Quandt Family to Block Daimler & BMW Cross Ownership Plan

22 March 2009 | No Comments »

BMW’s main single shareholder is the legendary Quandt family. The family holds 46% share of the Bavarian company. It could be debated that this bulk stake makes BMW a family business rather than a public company.

Recently BMW AG and traditional arch rival Daimler AG who are owners of Mercedes-Benz are going to buy stakes worth 7% in each other’s businesses. This was reported in Germany’s Der Spiegel newspaper. Now it is reported that the Quandt family will oppose such a deal.
Presently the two companies have agreed to buy in bulk parts that are common for both of them. BMW has the same kind of agreement with PSA Group where the Germans develop 1.6-litre petrol engines and the French use their monolithic buying power to bring down the total production costs for both entities. The deal is for 1 million engines where PSA takes 800,000 and BMW keeps 200,000.
