BMW supports plans for front-wheel drive and low discharges

5 May 2010 | No Comments »

BMW has affirmed the hearsays that it will construct front-wheel drive cars. Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW announced this at the Annual Accounts Press Conference for 2010. He stated that “The small car segment is expected to grow further. And we will take advantage of this opportunity. We are exploring the possibility of developing a joint architecture for the front and four-wheel drive systems of these cars. In other words: There will be front-wheel drive BMWs in the smaller vehicle classes in the future. Heresy, BMW fans – We wouldn’t worry too much – there seems little chance that BMW will make a wholesale switch from powering the rear wheels to the fronts, especially for its mainstream models like the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series – but the addition of a FWD chassis will make it easier for the automaker to share platforms with other companies and to reduce [its] fleet’s carbon-emissions worldwide by at least another 25 percent between 2008 and 2020.”

Dr. Reithofer stated further that “We consider carbon fiber a cutting-edge material for the auto industry. Our efforts will make sustainable mobility possible in urban environments.”

John Zeng, an IHS Global Insight analyst in Shanghai remarked that “If Volvo chooses China as its second home market, that’s probably going to trigger a price war in the premium segment.” He also stated that “cars can sell for 50 percent more in China than in the U.S.”

Ingolstadt, the Germany-based Audi signifies to oppose its leadership position and has programs to sell 200,000 cars in China in 2010 which is up from 159,000 last year. BMW sold 90,500 vehicles in the country in 2009.

With so much at chance, all three auto manufacturers program to broaden local production. BMW is elaborating its present Chinese factory and constructing a second one at a cost of 560 million euros to more than twice its capacity and build around 100,000 vehicles. Daimler, the world’s second-largest luxury auto manufacturer, at present has capability to build 100,000 C- and E-Class models at a Chinese plant. Daimler Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche said last week “The potential of the Chinese market remains enormous, and our targets are correspondingly ambitious.”

Preview of the 2010 BMW 760Li

22 February 2010 | 1 Comment »

The new 760 BMW has 544 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torsion in the big limousine. Doubters feel that BMW is dodging the numbers a little low down very diligently. It also does disregard the laws of aerodynamics.

Conceivably, this commotion of insistent increase of velocity is just a fantasy induced caused by the contiguous throttle reaction accessible at just 1,500 rpm. But, fused with the fresh eight-speed automatic diffusion the 760Li gives a feeling as if it would just continuously keep on speeding up forever. This is achievable with a whooping 250-kilometers-an-hour electronic governor.

When 760Li is compared with Mercedes’ S600, BMW arrogates a 4.6-second zero-to-100-km/h speedup time, precisely the same as Mercedes claims for its twin-turbo S600. The chassis is more than well furnished to manage space shuttle execution. BMW has apparently put in its entire knowledge linked with experience in chassis technology at its topflight. The “comfort” setting is soft and adapting.

One of the main attractions of the Li when compared to the regular 7 Series is that it has more extra room in the rear. In reality the back is convenient since it has much legroom in the rear. BMW 760Li has exceptional leather, a magnificent audio system and an enhanced iDrive system. The radio functionality is immensely bettered over the original; even now about four menu pages of the navigation system have to be searched to get info about a nearby gas station.

The 760Li holds back all the essential BMW-ness – extravagant and luxurious with the heart of a driver’s car which is its’ brand’s essence.

2013 BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics

7 February 2010 | No Comments »

Based on a version to the InsideLine an unnamed “senior BMW authority out of Munich” stated that the German auto manufacturer will certainly manufacture a production edition of the Vision EfficientDynamics conception which was introduced last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. BMW is apparently scheduling for a replica run between 5,000 and 10,000 units in the year 2013. Phew stated that “We’ll get to the details in a moment, but here’s the best news: That name that the marketing people forced on us [is] going to change for sure.”

Evidently, BMW is not planning to dump the revolutionary plug-in crossbreed power train, which stretch out 356 horsepower and of course a whooping 590 pound-feet of torsion in the conception. This only means that we will receive something comparable to the turbocharged 3-cylinder diesel variety extender and double electric motors catered by a lithium polymer battery pack. This was actually boasted in Frankfurt motor show. Sounds grand so far, and BMW arrogates the operation will even improve to more than the 4.8-second 0 to 60 run cited for the conception.

Of course a few of the Vision’s more bizarre external bits will follow the path of the Dodo. But the latest reports by the IL states that BMW’s objective of weight is still below 3,000 pounds. This only means that eminent-technique complexes and production techniques are a genuine lock. Prices for this next-generation eco-friendly super car have not being yet announced.
